Plays of the Week 2/6/09
![]()
Welcome back to a long overdue Plays of the Week post, at this rate it is more like Plays of the Week Month!
Links of the Week
- For a recap of the research platforms and posters abstracts being presented at APTA CSM this month, see my post from earlier in the week.
- A nice post by Eric Robertson asking “Do physical therapists value outcome measures?”
- Rod Henderson does a great job discussing overuse injuries.
- Good post on building sport-specific rotational strength by Chris Kolba.
- Mike Robertson’s exercise of the week, what he calls the triple shot, is a good way to work on scapula training. Watch out for overactive upper traps, though, focus on the lower trap!
- Ever wonder what a day in the life of guru strength coach Michael Boyle is like? Read his post on a typical day, great quick read. Speaking of Boyle, I really have no idea how he has the time or energy to continue to produce quality post after post. His website is by far the best on the internet, you are crazy if you haven’t subscribed yet.
- The latest from conditioningresearch.blogspot.com: Interval training may help prevent diabetes.
- Physiospot, the website with excellent information on all aspects of physical therapy research is growing!
- Are we over treating low back Pain?
- Leon Chaitow discusses the use of cold in the treatment of pain and trigger points.
- I am starting to like Twitter more and more these days. Here is a website that has a list of the top 100 health and medicine people on Twitter, good place to get started. I am currently 308, glad they didn’t really stop at 100! If you are interested in Twitter, I also suggest just following me and then going through and following the people I follow. I already did the work for you!
- FREE access to the new Sports Health Journal.
- The 100 best health and nutrition blogs for athletes.
Book of the Week
Orthopedic Physical Examination Tests: An Evidence Based Approach by Chad Cook and Eric Hegedus. There are a lot of books out there that review examination. This book was discussed in a past guest post regarding the QUADUS tool. A great review of examination tests loaded with research. A great tool as we try to take the guess work out of our examinations. Take a look at that past post for more info.
Rehab Product of the Week
- This week’s rehab product is actually a website, SportsRehabExpert.com. The site is loaded with great articles and updated frequently. I have contributed an article already and will continue to do so. Other authors that write for the site include Michael Boyle, Gray Cook, Eric Cressey, Greg Rose, Charlie Weingroff, Ron Panariello, and many more. A great source for online articles for rehabilitation. I won’t hold it against them that they put an “h" in my mast name, happens all the time! You can gain access to the site for as little as $1!
